I do not like to carry even a purse and then I found out I was pregnant and was going to have to carry around a baby and a diaper bag, NO WAY! I began to look at other mother's and asked a lot of opinions about front carriers vs. slings. For me a sling seemed the best thing in the long run because it appeared to work for years and with multiple children.
I received on for my daughter's baby shower but I did not even try to use it until she was 2 weeks old. I was nursing and started to go to a Mom's group for nursing Moms. Trying to get everything into to a diaper bag, the stroller, and the carrier for the baby was a bit overwhelming, along with trying to breast feed in public. I remember not wanting to go sometimes, because the effort was more than I could muster some days.
At one of the groups I asked if I was the only one feeling this way and everyone agreed. Thank goodness I was not alone, but what to do. A Mom who had a toddler & a new born suggested a carrier or sling. I then remembered that I had one hanging in the closet. That was my ticket to freedom.
The NoJo sling that I have is made of light weight denim, with a blue & white plaid padded rails with a shoulder pad/baby head rest. It can be worn several different ways and takes a little practice, but once you figure it out its a piece of cake to take on & off.
I began by using the shoulder pad as a head rest for my daughter and as she got bigger I began to use it for my shoulder. I was free to move around the house and clean, shop go out to dinner at a buffet and never have to juggle a baby or awkward carrier in one had. My daughter was easy to put to sleep because I wore her so much, she was rocked gently just like when she was in the womb. In public places I could discretely latch her on to nurse and continue with whatever I was busy doing.
Once she was able to sit up she would peak her head out and watch what was going on around her. I never had to worry about nap and feeding time. I used the NoJo all the way past her 2 birthday by strapping her to my back sometimes or still just hanging out on my hip.
When my son came along it was once again pulled out of storage to be used and it allowed me to hold my big 3 years old hand while still having a new baby safely nearby. My daughter even asked if they made NoJo slings for her dolls because she wanted to be just like Mommy.
