The Bottom Line: Avoid the Treo Line altogether. They were the first to come out with a real PDA phone (Handspring) and have overpriced and under qualified their product accordingly
I purchased this phone in hopes of avoiding carrying a PDA, a cell phone, and an ipod all at the same time. This device seemed to be a great fit. It has a PDA based on the PALM OS which was fine but it is hard to find/access through the myriad of menus and the unintelligible 'smart' buttons on the front. Once you find it, it works 'kinda' like a Palm PDA only a very light version with very few of the features.
The cell phone...actually was pretty decent for me except that it seems to take a simple function like dialing and it turns it into a half hour commitment to pull it off. The keys are tiny and fiddly, and require multiple shifts and alternate keys to get at the characters that you require. The contacts list is not the easiest to navigate through and the antenna, is flimsy, gets caught on everthing and snaps off at the blink of an eye. Just go on ebay and see how many treo 650s are there without an antenna! Its sad but hilarious at the same time.
The ipod/mp3 player. WOW...this gives a whole new depth level to the kingdom of suck. First of all, the music distorts so it sounds like crap but the audio on the phone is REALLY REALLY low probably so you don't have to hear how bad the quality is? At any rate, you can buy software to help boost the audio level but its $19.95, games? $19.95, additional utility software? $19.95. Additional headphones? $19.95. I swear, everything for this phone is $19.95. Even the stupid replacement antenna!
Please understand, I hate giving negative reviews but when I experience a 'smart' phone this horrible that was this expensive? I have to bust a cap on it.
I was suckered into a deal by letstalk.com and SPRINT, Sprint denied the rebate it offered to me because letstalk gave me a discount. This was not on the original rebate requirement, so I paid much more for the phone than I would have had I purchased it via Verizon or someone else (avoid Sprint)
I'm a videographer in Las Vegas and I need a good PDA phone to handle my customers, voicemails, email, etc. and the video is great for showing video production work to my clients on the fly. That was one of the only decent things this phone could do, play mp4, but was finicky as to which file format it would accept.
