My November discovery of the British band, Coldplay was pure chance. I had called in sick and was doing what sick people do at home; laying around with the T.V. clicker in one hand and a bottle of Alka Seltzer Plus in the other. I was hazily clicking away and was compelled to stop on MTV when I saw a nice looking boy walking along a deserted beach. It wasn't so much the boy, or the beach, but the color of the video; a beautiful rich shade of blue. Beyond the boy, beach, and blue was one of the most incredible songs I had heard in a very long time; "Yellow". I was honestly blown away by the video and the song.
As soon as the video ended, I was on the internet doing a search for the band. I listened to a few tantalizing bits of their songs on Amazon.com and that's all it took; I was head over heels in love. Later that day, I made a trip to Best Buy for my copy of "Parachutes". I honestly felt like I could not go another day without possessing this music. A month later and I still can't get over the effect this CD has had on me. I listen to it in my car, at home, and at work. Anyone that knows me has been forced to listen to this CD. Of course, they all own it now, too.
I imagine that this is either the type of music that you LOVE or HATE. My boyfriend calls it "indie" music and hates it. I call it genius and LOVE it! It's super mellow and not as dreary as some say it is. It's the kind of music that should be listened to while driving, sleeping, waking up, working and making love. Basically, it's music to live by.
The alternative station here is FINALLY starting to play "Yellow" regularly. I understand that KROQ in LA is a great supporter of Coldplay, so hopefully before long, the whole country will have heard of them. I won't rest until every man, woman, and child has had an opportunity to love this music as much as I do!
