Author's Review

With so much music to choose from it can be a real challenge finding something that good and different. Paulina Rubio a.k.a. Blond Paulina was born on June 17, 1971 in Mexico is the daughter of actress Susana Dosamantes. Growing up the daughter of a popular actress quickly put Paulina in the spotlight giving her a taste of the show business industry. She is a talented singer that picked up quit a few skills along the way showcased in her album Pau-Latina. It is easy to understand how this Latin singer had Billboards Latin Album of the year back in 2001.

Fortunately, the same success that garnered the fans in 2001 is present on her latest 58-minute album titled, “Pau-Latina”. Those familiar with this genre of music are no stranger to the song, “Te Quise Tanto” which has been getting a lot of play on the alternative radio stations. Although it is the third track on the album, for me it’s the place to start because it is my favorite track. Paulina sweet vocals quickly subdue the ears as you are pulled into this dynamic jam. This track has some traditional Latin sounds yet it has more of a pop disco fell with a hint of country especially at the end of the song.

Although this is out of order, my second favorite song is track one titled, Algo Tienes. Paulina starts off singing, “Hoy no te veo igual Algo extraño esta pasando” which means, Today I do not see you equal, something strange this happening. (don't quote me my translations could be off) Although I am not as fluent in Spanish I've taken enough where I can understand the majority of "the golden girls" lyrics on this particular track. This is a high-energy track that will make you move your feet as you anticipate the next track, My Friend, Mi Amigo. Track two gently changes course taking things down a few notches in pace yet filling the slow spots with guitars, snares and lyrics that melt together like butter on a corn stick. No salt or pepper is needed for this song, which has quickly become my tasty musical ally as it supports Paulina's varied range and talent as a young singer. It appears she knows what her fans want and throwing in this wonderful crowd pleaser.

Another song I like on this album is the seventh track titled, "Quiero Cambiarme". This time her vocals are harder lightly punching out this song, matched with a driving bass line and a catchy Latin sounding lead instrumental. The thirteen track on this album titled, "Dame Otro Tequila" has a familiar feel like "Quiero Cambiarme" however she takes it up a few notches grabbing more of the rumba sound. The smooth bass, snappish drums, and pure sound of Paulina's popish lyrics quickly capture the listener's ears and feet with her pulsating combination of salsa and dance music. Just as this musical journey began it appropriately ends on the fourteenth track with an instrumental version of Algo Tienes.

Complete track listing:

1. Algo Tienes
2. My Friend, Mi Amigo
3. Te Quise Tanto
4. Baila Que Baila
5. Ojala
6. Perros
7. Quiero Cambiarme
8. Mma
9. Alma en Libertad
10. Adiosito Corazon
11. Amor Secreto
12. Volveras
13. Dame Otro Tequila
14. Algo Tienes

Overall, this is a great endeavor. Easy to listen to, simple song structures that afford listeners an excellent opportunity to broaden their musical horizons. Those looking for new music; be sure to add this hot and spicy track to your collection. This is a good album and its great listening to the Spanish lyrics, which bring a totally different feel to the music. Looks pop goddess of the Onda-Max generation Shakira has got some competition.
