Missing .... something
Date of Review: Jul 17, 2000
Power Stone is a new type of fighting game. I haven't seen any capcom games that will have you throwing chairs at your enemies more than throwing punches at them, but this one does that. Still plot is bad and too typical for fighting games, and it doesnt show what the dreamcast can do for fighting games.
Vis 7/10
Graphics aren't bad, but they are kept at a fast pace. Characters tended to look a bit childish in nature, but their attacks look nice. Also, some guys look incredible when they have "morphed" into their power stone state ( not sure what else to call it )
Sound 5/10
Sound was rather mixed. I got sick of hearing the voices of the characters ( especially when it slowed down at the end ), but they were pretty crisp. Music was modest at best, but for the most part when i was playing I kept my volume low because the sound just seemed to get it the way.
Control 9/10
Moves where few and combos are just created on the fly. Most people though will just want to run around trying to bounce of walls and toss a crate or some other object at an enemy so you can take their powerstone.
Gameplay 6/10
Despite its flaws the game can be fun, though it will get boring rather quickly. I will give this game credit for doing something new, and trying to make a new set of fighting games, but it needed more options, more characters, and a bit more tactics then run and grab some stones.
