Product Review

The Best Point & Shoot Digital Camera I've seen !

by   l_a_bob ,   Jan 31, 2005

Pros:  Size & Speed

Cons:  None that I've found so far

The Bottom Line:  If you're looking for a 3MP camera small enough to throw in your pocket and still take great pictures & video, this camera is only choice for me.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

After 2 weeks of intense searching I picked up this little honey & I couldn't be happier with it!

In my research for a 3 Mega Pixel camera, it came down between the Casio Exilim EX-Z30 & the Canon PowerShot SD200 Digital ELPH. If you look at the specs side-by-side, it might be a tough call...

But, when you walk into a store and handle each of them, there's no contest.

The Canon has more features & is much faster (startup & shutter speed) than the Casio. When you pair the Canon SD200 with a high speed SD card (either type II or Type III) there's virtually no lag as the camera writes to the card. In multi-burst mode the shutter speed hovers right around 2.5 per second, which is amazing for a sub-$300 3MP point and shoot digital camera.

Update
I did shoot some video with my camera at a House of Blues concert in Anaheim over the weekend (The Psychedelic Furs). If you've ever been to a show at a HOB you'll know how dark it can get inside during a show. The camera performed exceptionally in a low-light situation. It was hard to tell while I was filming, but when I got home and watched the video on our television even my buddies were impressed with how much ambient light the camera picked up @ 30fps.

I can’t wait to try the movie mode in an environment that is more conducive to filming.

Strengths:
1) Small size & weight
2) Huge LCD
3) Multi-Burst mode & the ability to shoot pictures until the memory card is full
4) Video @ 30fps and 60fps Slow Motion function
