Author's Review
Both my boyfriend and I have taken a interest in cooking. Eating out every night was not only expensive, the quality of the food wasn't that great. One of the kitchen appliances we decided to pick up was a deep fryer.
I grew up watching my mother cook with a FryDaddy. The food was delicious but I remembered how much a mess it made because the lid could only be used when the unit had cooled down since it was made of plastic. I wanted to avoid the mess and the hot container that my mother had to deal with it. This led us to the Presto Cool Daddy.
Appearance and Parts
The Presto Cool Daddy is a large white deep fryer. The exterior is very easy to clean. Just use a damp cloth and presto, it's spotless! It comes with a removable pot that is coated with a nonstick coating for ease in cleaning. It also comes with a basket with a movable handle that helps in lowering the food into the oil with either the lid closed or open. This comes in handy if you have food that will splatter because the lid can be closed before lowering the basket.
On the front of the deep fryer, there is a large grey button that is pushed when you want to open the lid. Underneath the lid release button is the indicator light that informs you when the oil has been heated to the proper temperature. At the bottom of the fryer, are the temperature controls. You have the choice of adjusting from zero (of course) up to 375 degrees (which happens to be the recommended temperature for most frying).
Performance
We've been using this fryer for about 6 months and have had zero problems with the food that we've fried. We've fried chicken, chicken patties, french fries, chicken nuggets, and onion rings. Everything has come out a perfect golden brown and never undercooked. We just follow the general guidelines for cooking times and temperatures in the instruction booklet.
Pros
1. The exterior stays cool. You don't have to worry about accidentally burning yourself if you touch the unit while in use. The only way you would be able to tell it's on, is by the sound of the food frying.
2. The inside of the removable pot is very easy to clean.
3. Cooks food to perfection and very simple to use.
4. It has a mesh charcoal filter which helps absorbs smelly odors.
Cons
1. Even though the removable pot has a nonstick coating on the inside, the outside does not. This makes this a little hard to clean and you will accumulate a small amount of grease buildup.
2. The fryer has a see-through lid. It's not really useful because when you're frying it seems to get fogged up. When I want to check on the food, I usually end up opening the lid.
3. It doesn't come with a long cord. The cord is magnetic and detaches easily from the fryer which may be a problem if you bump it while cooking. This will cause the unit to stop heating. This has never happened to me, but it is a possibility.
Final Opinion
I would recommend this fryer to anyone in the market for a dependable fryer. With the cool touch exterior and ability to adjust the temperature control, it's definitely worth the extra money you have to pay vs. other fryers.
