Bright Light

Yeah yeah the title wasn't too creative but what can you say? You gotta call it like you see it.

Here is how I arrived at the Princeton Tec Genesis. I was in the market for a LED flashlight, everything about them made me want one, their brightness, the long battery life and the long bulb life. I tried a few flashlights prior to this one but they never lived up to my expectations, either the beam pattern wasn't very good or the light was too blue or it was just plain too fragile.

I ended up finding the PTG at a local sporting good store and after doing a little bit of research decided that it was the flashlight I wanted.

This flashlight is bright. 3 Watt LED that has intense light. It is categorized as a tactical flashlight which lives up to the billing. It is waterproof to 1 meter, great for if you happen to be using it in wet conditions or drop it in a puddle. Has 3 lens colour filters for a variety of applications and uses the CR123 batteries. I really like the end cap activation, it is solid enough that it won't accidentally turn itself on when in your pack. The intermittent on feature is great if you are in a situation where you only need light for a few seconds. Elastomer body provides great grip and the different options for securing the light is great as well, it comes with a clip, lanyard ring or just a regular anti roll ring. I prefer the anti roll ring for sleekness.

Overall I really like this flashlight, the throw and brightness is great and for the price I paid it was well worth it, although a bit more than regular LED's found at your local department store this one is regulated so you get constant light power for a certain period of time before the batteries degrade and start dimming the light ouput.

I do have a couple issues. The lens filters although very nice require you to unscrew the lens cap to install. I find this to be a hassle, I would prefer if it was a snap on lens. CR123 batteries are expensive!! Although they do last longer have higher voltage output and do not degrade in cold weather. Alternatively a guy can purchase lots of these batteries on ebay.

If you are looking for a good LED at a decent price check this one out. The aluminum body provides a solid feel and I would have no qualms depending on this light for survival use.
