Author's Review

My wife has a small quilting business. This requires a serious iron for pressing of mass quantities of of fabric in various stages of assembly.

Ten years ago I bought my wife a Professional Rowenta iron. it was very expensive at the time ($100.00). At the time it was the big kahuna of burst of steam technology. and it had 1200 watts of heat. It has operated flawlessly for 9 of its 10 years of life. now it is having heat control problems, in that it scorches the fabric even when at a moderate thermostat setting. considering that it has been used for several hours a day for an average of 3 days a week for 10 years, not bad at all. the only real beef is its weight and size. But it is a real work horse and even by todays standards has mighty steam production. At the nine year mark I bought her a new rowenta. I shopped with an eye towards improving on the Professional. I chose a model called the aqua clip DE473.

I would write a separate review for the DE473, but the model was apparently short lived. the water tank was removable and prone to leaks. We had this problem with the leak initially being a minor annoyance and becoming intolerable. On Rowenta's behalf, they replaced the tank free of charge despite it being out of warranty.

If you don't mind a heavy iron, the Professional is good for extreme service and longevity.
