Author's Review
After waiting to actually purchase an LCD TV, I am exceptionally pleased to have chosen the LC-46D62U Sharp 46" FullHD 1080P Aquos. The screen size is gigantic, the picture is unbelievably clear, and the brightness on the TV is outstanding! I have Comcast cable and the variety of HD stations is quite sufficient. When I first got the TV home, I was only able to receive the "over the air" HD signals. Even then, the TV excelled well past anything I had ever seen before. I found myself watching random public access stations because they were offering HD programming for free! The picture is simply unbelievable. The black levels on this TV are BLACK. Not washed out at all. They are indeed black!
The TV offers loads of features via the menu, but right out of the box, the TV is already set up and ready to go. Plug and play, indeed. I believe the only thing I changed on the menu was turning the surround sound ON as it defaults to off. Also, there were some white level adjustments that I put on "medium," though I don't really notice any difference in the picture. The point is it's perfect for use with minimal set-up whenever you get it home. The sound on the TV is great. I don't have it plugged into any surround sound systems and the speakers on the TV are good enough to watch anything. Motion blur is non-existent with the fast 5ms response time. Watching sports in HD is the way they're supposed to be viewed. This same thing goes for regular TV shows that before I was only able to view via regular TV. This means CSI:Miami looks stunning! =)
I don't have any gaming systems hooked up to the TV as I'm a computer gamer, rather than console. That said, one of 2 complaints i do have would be that it doesn't have a VGA input for computers. But that's so incredibly minor, I'm not even sure it can qualify as a proper "complaint." I didn't buy this TV to play my computer on it. I bought it for TV and movies. The other would be viewing standard def. TV. I guess that's the sacrifice you make when you get one of these is that regular TV now looks strikingly bad. You can try altering the view using a button on the remote, but there's really now way to make a 480i program look good on the TV.
Lastly, people have been talking about "banding" issues with this TV. As yet, I have not experienced this at all. Perhaps I've been lucky. But for all the negativity this TV receives in reviews, I simply do not see it. I purchased this TV 10/28/2007 from TigerDirect for $1599.99. That price was (at the time) approx. $1k less than everywhere else for the same TV. At that price, the TV is a total steal.
Since purchasing this TV, I have suggested this model to a couple of my friends, and, I have also gone out and bought LC-37D43U 37" Sharp Aquos for my bedroom. While this TV isn't 1080P, the picture is just as bright, and stunning. I am completely happy with my purchase(s) of Sharp LCD(s). They have been exactly what I have wanted and saved up for. I often suffer from buyers remorse after a purchase. I have to say, this is the first time in a long time that I have mad a substantial purchase and do not have a single ounce of regret. I highly recommend this TV as an option if you are looking to purchase a large, high-quality LCD for your home.
