This Movie is a Repeat Watcher
Date of Review: Mar 20, 2000
The Bottom Line: Gotta see this one
I watched this movie the first time because I liked the story line that was previewed on the television commercials when this movie was in the theaters. I usually watch everything that Morgan Freeman is in and when I saw that he was playing opposite Tim Gibbons I knew this was a winner. I wasn't disappointed either, actually the movie was better than I thought it would be for a prison flick.
When I saw the movie advertised on USA network as was coming on that night I knew I would be captivated yet again. I have watched at lest three times prior to this night still it was like the first time.
Tim Gibbons played banker named Andy Dufrain that was falsely accused of killing his wife and her lover thus he was sent to Shawl Shank to serve his prison time after being
sentenced and found guilty. Tim Gibbons does an outstanding job of acting the part of an inmate at Shaw Shank where he meets Red his new best friend, played by Morgan Freeman. Morgan Freeman's character narrates the movie by filling some of the details that helps the viewer get a clearer picture of the situation and of this inmate he has befriended.
The more the movie goes on the better it gets, I can see it so clearly in my mind I feel as if I have come to befriend these two very likable characters and their band of friends and if it comes on again I will probably sit through it again. If you haven't seen this one yet I will
let you in on a secret, even though there are up's and down?s through out the movie and you think the worst will happen this movie does have a happy ending.
I always like to know it I'm going to be shattered or not at the end. Happy watching you won't be disappointed.
I would recommend this movie to any adult that roots for the underdog. I wouldn't watch it with children because some of the aspects for prison life are no suitable for
younger audiences, but the movie has no nudity or allot of violence and no gross parts.
If you like this movie you might want to watch The Rock, another movie about prison life or another one is an older movie titled Escape from Alcatraz.
