Author's Review
For you sporting types out there, I submit the Shotgun News for your consideration.
I have been a subscriber for several years and I find each issue fascinating and informative. Shotgun News is a low cost, easy solution to satisfying your guns, ammunition, reloading, parts, and accessories needs.
If you're a shooter like I am, you will appreciate the ease of thumbing through an issue and finding the bargains that will take care of all your shooting needs. Hunters and outdoors types will also find SGN an invaluable source of equipment for their forays into the great outdoors.
Shotgun News is a tabloid sized newspaper running a couple of hundred pages per issue. It is published three times a month for a total of 36 issues a year. A one-year subscription is available for only $29.95, which amounts to a little less than $1 per issue. A partial 18-issue subscription is available on their website for only $19.95 if you want to try it before you commit to a longer term. If you buy Shotgun News on the newsstand an issue costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $3.00, so the subscription is the way to go if you are at all interested in hunting, shooting, or outdoor life.
Shotgun News has display ads from hundreds of legitimate companies who subscribe to a code of ethics that SGN requires of their advertisers. Each advertiser is required to guarantee their merchandise and offer 100% money back if you are not satisfied. Many of the companies have been advertising for years and are reputable with very few or no legitimate complaints. The advertisers value your business and will work to make you satisfied.
There are also some 440 classifications for specific guns, ammunition, and accessories. If something is related to hunting or shooting, it is almost sure to be available in the pages of the Shotgun News.
Each issue typically has four or five interesting articles by recognized gun writers concerning the several aspects of the shooting sports, including Cowboy Action Shooting, Target Shooting, Clay Games, Gun Collecting, Military Reenactment, and Hunting. There is also a question and answer section by noted firearms authority Jim Supica.
Besides the convenience of shopping by mail, phone, or Internet (many advertisers list websites and email), an added advantage of ordering through the mail is that out of state companies normally do not charge sales tax. The savings can be quite significant over time or if your order is large.
I recently purchased some Colt 45 Automatic Pistol magazines from an advertiser at SGN. The magazines arrived in a reasonable time via UPS, were as advertised condition (new) and were genuine Colt magazines. They cost less than half of what I would pay for the same magazine at a gun shop and no tax.
Ammunition is available in various quantities and usually at bargain prices. Often obscure or hard to find calibers are available through the SGN where your local gun store would not want to stock something that would be slow moving. There are a lot of advantages to subscribing to the Shotgun News - I've just highlighted a few.
