Author's Review

That quoute "fully immersive positional 3D audio" that is made by diamond is completly true and more! this soundcard goes above and beyond this description and is a benefit in so many ways, that are beyond being listed here. The number one advantage of this card is of course clear and distinct audio channels. but an oft overlooked by-product of having such clear and acurate audio is a decrease in frame rates for your favorite FPS or other game. One game that could give you a headache in more than one ways is a fairly advanced shooter such as unreal tournament. games such as this not only offer top tier graphics but top tier audio as well. in this particular game it is possible to determine the source of the audio if you have a compatible soundcard. But how does this happen? Well in the case of this particular soundcard it uses a format called A3D, using this particular method of calculating the audio sources is very processor intense indeed and can result in a significant drop in framerates while the cpu handles this task. The diamond MX300 is well designed and able to handle a significant portion of this load using its on card processor. This translates into clearer well defined audio for your ears AND faster framerates for your eyes. I mentioned a format called A3D earlier and as it stands now A3D and another format pushed for very strongly by creative, EAX or enviromental audio is another formnat and luckily for you the MX300
is able to utilize both with the EAX being handled by software emulation. Also the instalation was a snap and no problems where found.
Overall this card is an excelent choice and while it retails for 80 dollars you will be able to pick it up for approximatley 50 dollars at any online store such as buy.com
