Author's Review
I purchased this TV about two weeks ago after spending a good amount of time researching HDTVs on the web and in stores. I have a rather small apartment, so a normal projection TV wasn't feasible. On the other hand, I planned on putting the TV on a stand, so there was no need to shell out extra $$ for a flat panel. I narrowed the search down to this TV and the Samsung 42" DLP. Comparing them side by side in Circuit City, I thought that the Sony had a sharper picture while the Samsung had better colors. I eventually went with the Sony for the picture.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I am very pleased with this TV all-around. The picture is great and it works flawlessly, easy to set up and navigate through menus. It has plenty of component inputs (I am not even going to buy an HDMI cable since the component picture looks so awesome). The TV can also "simulate" surround sound, which actually sounds surprisingly real. It's nice for watching football games because you can hear the crowd all around you. (Obviously if you have real surround sound speakers you won't use this but I thought I'd mention it). Also, after a little bit of tweaking, I was able to get the colors to appear more vivid on the screen. There's also a "vivid" color option that will do this automatically.
My only complaint, and this has nothing to do with the TV itself, is that non-HD channels don't look too good. This is true of every single HDTV, and will be solved as soon as the stations get their act together and start broadcasting more channels in high def.
Simply put, this TV has been great and I am thrilled with it. If you have a little bit of space and don't need a true flat panel, then this will look just as good for a much better price. Strongly recommended.
