Sorry, Paula-This Album Leaves Me Far From "Spellbound"

Date of Review:  Jun 2, 2005
The Bottom Line: Never much of a singer, Paula was only as good as her material. Unfortunately, 99% of the good material was on her first album, which was NOT this one.
Review: One of the strangest mysteries in recent pop culture is why Paula Abdul is a judge on "American Idol". Despite the fact that Paula made a handful of exciting dance-pop singles in the late Eighties/early Nineties, having her judge a singing contest...

Odd detour, Part Two

Date of Review:  Apr 4, 2000
Review: In my other Paula Abdul review, I explained the odd hold the pathetic dance-pop singer's two albums had over me a decade or so ago. It was basically the first "secular" music I was allowed to buy in my sheltered private-school days, so I listened to...

Classic 90's Pop Struggles to Stand the Test of Time

Date of Review:  Oct 23, 2004
The Bottom Line: Paula Abdul's "Spellbound" is overlooked by history for it's great pop music contributions, but much of it is just filler sound.
Review: People were so immersed in the success of Paula Abdul's debut album "Forever Your Girl" that often her far-more-successful follow-up "Spellbound" is forgotten by history.
Take a minute for yourself and try to list all of the songs from...

Hmm....This Must Be Pop

Date of Review:  Oct 27, 2001
The Bottom Line: This is the pinnacle of Paula Abdul's career, for whatever that's worth....
Review: Paula Abdul went away with the early-90s Dance-Pop movement. Now pop has returned. There are an interesting number of similarities between Abdul and current pop princess Britney Spears. Both have subpar singing voices, but try to make up for it by...

Nothing Worse Than a Talentless PopStar Getting Experimental

Date of Review:  Jul 5, 2000
Review: There is nothing worse than a talentless pop star who gets experimental. I generally look for a more experimental sound, true, and I expect a lot. But, when a pop star comes along with his or her bubble-gum sound and sugar-coated music-like...

Don't be ashamed!

Date of Review:  Jun 8, 2000
Review: I read another positive review of Paula Abdul's Spellbound album. You shouldn't have to be ashamed that you enjoy this album.. Although I agree with you it is not perfect, I think it was a step in the right direction for Paula to go in. When I was a...
