Could Have Been Better
Date of Review: Nov 10, 2002
The Bottom Line: It is very long and boring, needs improvement.
Plot
You are Spiderman and you are to save the city from destruction by the evil enemies. You have to chase the villains throughout the game. They move throughout the city destroying everything. Different from the movie, there are a lot of villains other than just one. Each villain being more challenging than the previous one. The levels are easy enough for any gamer to beat until you get to the very end.
Pros
You have special powers being Spiderman, you can tie people up in webs then punch them till they die, you can jump from one wall to the other avoiding enemies, and you can crawl on the walls and ceilings and throw webs at people from the wall or ceilings. These are really cool powers to use when you know how to use them. You can also just swing from just anywhere. It shoots a web into the sky and somehow you swing off of it. This swinging makes it a lot faster and easier to get from place to place and from roof of one building to another. There is a training stage that shows you how to use the controls which is really good, the levels for training are really fun, they are races. You have to beat a preset time to go to the next stage.
All of these moves are really easy to maneuver and can be perfected within a few practices. Spiderman is easy to move so it is not one of the characters who takes a long time to move or turn directions or something, he is really fast actually..
The graphics are extremely great in this game. This might not of been one of the Xbox's best games action wise but it does have the best graphics of any game that I have ever played. Some of the graphics are dark and hard to see in some levels but most of them are good. This game definitely took a long time to make because it is really good quality.
Cons
One bad thing about this game is that it is very boring. None of the levels have a time limit so there is no real press to get things done which makes it kind of slow. The levels are kind of boring because they are real easy. The bad guys are real easy to defeat, not the big bad guy but the little helpers, they don't move very fast and their punches don't hurt much at all. It is almost impossible to die except when you're battling the big villain. This would have been better if it was a challenge, but the way it is, there is just no challenge.
The narrator of this game is the guy from the movie (Tobey Maquire). He is a good actor on film and all but he just doesn't have the voice for a video game. The way he says things and his voice just aren't made for a video game. There is no music at all during the game so it gets kind of boring. So I must say that the audio of this game is really bad.
There are some levels where you have to swing around and take pictures of yourself and that just doesn't make any sense, which is also just a waster of time. There are a lot of levels just they are very boring.
The makers of this game could of made this better with some music in the background with levels that had time limits or something but the way it is now just is not very good.
