I joined a mail order music program and had to pick out a few CDs that interested me for the introductory price. I saw the George Strait Special was equal to four CDs but I wanted it just the same. I like George Strait. I have liked him for a long time. He may not be my favorite but he is in the top ten. I didn't have many of his CDs at the time and I though this would be a great starter set. What a wonderful idea that was.
The set comes in a gift box with George Strait's picture on the front. It is a really nice looking presentation. Inside the box is a book and four CDs. The book tells a great deal about George Strait, his music career, and the songs he chose for this set. It is an interesting read for any George Strait fan.
One is a collection of some of his older music, including "I Just Can't Go On Dying Like This" recorded in 1978. There are a few old favorites on this CD. I always liked the song "If your thinking you want a stranger" and it is included on this CD. It was the third single released by Strait and is a good old country love letter to a wife letting her know that her husband has changed his ways. This CD is a great walk down memory lane with some reflection into Strait's past hits.
Two is a collection of hits for the mid to late 80s. The majority of the songs on this CD are sweet love songs, but there are a few really feel good songs. "The Fireman" is a fun, feel good song that is on this CD. A couple of other silly songs on this CD are "Ocean Front Property" and "All my ex's live in Texas". It is really great the way these fun songs were placed on this CD because for the most part the music is very emotional and I feel that the fun songs seem to balance out the mood of this CD.
Three is a collection of songs from the late 80s to the early 90s. My favorite song on this CD is "If I know me" it is a wonderful love song about how he couldn't leave his woman even if he wanted to. There were some songs on this CD that I was not familiar with but once I gave them a try I realized they were just as good as all the old favorites I already knew. If I had to pick a least favorite of the four CDs this one would have to be it. Not that I don't like this CD, but I just don't like it as much as the other three. It is still a great selection of music but when I buy a "greatest hits" type CD I expect to have a lot of songs that I know and can sing to. Still after a few plays this CD is really good. This one has a few sad songs on it also.
Four is a collection from 1991-1995. These are probably more familiar to new Strait fans. The songs "Check yes or No" and "I Cross My Heart" are both very touching love songs. These are two of Straits biggest hits also.
Purchasing this set will get you George Strait's greatest hits from 1978-1995. Then it is up to you to find the rest of his hits. This is a must have for Strait fans and a wonderful gift purchase.
