Better than an SUV

Date of Review:  Aug 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: If you can give up 10-15% of the cargo space of an SUV, then there's no comparison. Highly recommended.
Review: We bought an Subaru Outback last year because my wife's previous Subaru wagon had proven to be very reliable for 14 years. The previous Subaru wagon was fairly quick, handled well, very affordable, and proved to be fairly low-maintenance: nothing...

L.L.Bean Outback at 40,000 miles

Date of Review:  Jul 16, 2003
The Bottom Line: Extremely dependable, comfortable car. Probably the best Outback produced. A very good choice as a used car.
Review: The L.L.Bean Outback is Subaru's first entry into what it perceives to be a "luxury" class of car. By Subaru's standards, they did a great job. BMW, Mercedes and Lexus may beg to differ.

I am on my 4th Subaru, and they have gotten...

Not holding up very well

Date of Review:  Dec 28, 2006
Review: At 56,000 miles, the repair bills on this car are staring to pile up. At one recent visit for a check engine light, we had to replace the coil pack, plugs, and plug wires. (Note: this is our third set of plugs--our Corolla with 220,000 miles is also...

great car - $$$$ service after 6 years

Date of Review:  Dec 18, 2007
Review: This car was great protection for family snow-driving; AWD and low center of gravity were a real help. I like it better than an SUV because you can see the kids on bikes around you. The third headrest in back makes it safe for passengers. The...

Fully loaded VDC outback

Date of Review:  Jul 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: Best recommendation is simply..try one out!
Review: It all started with a Ford Ranger (2000) 4x4. Prior to that is was always a sedan with front wheel drive for added traction. It was beautiful but sluggish and had a strong hint of instability during normal highway speeds and adverse weather...

Hooked after test drive

Date of Review:  Aug 24, 2001
The Bottom Line: Great car but the price will make me wait for the end of the model year for the buyer incentives.
Review: My wife and recently test drove a few different models of the outback, from the base 4 cylinder to the loaded LL. Bean.
My wife fell in love. We both liked the styling and the features of this mini-S.U.V. She really likes the exterior size...

Not big enough

Date of Review:  Oct 7, 2003
The Bottom Line: Great little car overall, but not the Mommy-mobile that I'd hoped would get me through the next few years. Too tiny for that.
Review: I am sorry to admit it, but the Outback is not big enough for me! We purchased this new in 2001 to replace my fabulous 1993 Honda Accord wagon. I have a small horticultural business, and now a 7 month old child, and there is just not enough room in...

Subaru Outback--More than just a Legacy with testosterone?

Date of Review:  Jun 5, 2007
The Bottom Line: If the all wheel drive doesn't impress you already, most everything else will.
Review: For the past two years, my mother has worked 12-hour shifts and has saved $10,000 for my graduation present--a car. Because of that, I cannot write this review without expressing how much I deeply appreciate how hard she worked.

Recently I...

Problems with Subaru and Subaru dealer

Date of Review:  Nov 4, 2004
The Bottom Line: I would never purchase another Subaru, never!
Review: The driver's door window on my new 2001 Subaru Outback began to leak air and make noise after owning the car for 6 months. Over the last 3 years the dealer, Heuberger Motors in Colorado Springs, has attempted to fix this problem no less than 12...

Perfect snow and slush-mobile

Date of Review:  May 26, 2004
The Bottom Line: Good mileage, phenomenal traction, easy to maintain, fun to drive. Buy one.
Review: We traded both our Honda Civic and Nissan Pathfinder on this car. Living next to a ski resort, the front wheel drive Civic was unable to handle the snow, ice and mud of rural life. And while the Pathfinder always made it home, 8mpg in 4WD was...
