Amazing Graphics and sound, compelling story
Date of Review: Sep 15, 2007
The Bottom Line: A very compelling game, worth every penny.
I have been addicted to this game since my wife convinced me to buy it. The idea was that we would play through it together as we did with Gabriel Knight, Fatal Frame, and the classic horror game Phantasmagoria. Of course, I did not end up waiting on her.
It's a creepy game, full of atmosphere. I found the "twist" to be predictable, so the writing is not the best I suppose. It is original and unique in some ways. You get to upgrade yourself as a weapon with "Plasmids" and unleash the fury of hell (both Inuit Hell and Christian Hell) on your foes. Of course, let's not forget "Little Sister" and her companion "Mr. Bubbles". These are the big tough baddies and you have to take them down to survive.
The voice acting was very well done, but not overpowering. The sound effects throughout fit very nicely with ambient noise all around. The sound did a great job of scaring you at the right time and heightening the tension.
If you have a decent enough computer, a DirectX 9 card AGP 8X or better with 256MB and 2gigs of RAM should do the trick. A >2.4 GHz CPU too probably would be a minimum. If you like fun games, run out and buy this game. Decent games need to be supported and this is one of the best FPS' since Half Life 2 came out.
