YOUR CHILD WILL READ
Date of Review: Mar 9, 2003
The Bottom Line: If your child is ready to read and you want to teach them, this is the book for you.
I have used this to teach seven children to read and it really works. One of these children still does not read well, but he has a learning disability. Three of these children were not the ones being taught they were just being required to sit to still in the same room while I taught another child. That is how good this method is.
It is all laid out for you. You read the first part of the book to get background information and to learn the why's and how's of the method which is the SRA-DISTAR Method. From there you read the words and listen for the child to give you the appropriate response that is specifically written out in the book.
This book does not stop at teaching the child to read--they learn comprehension of what they have just read. They learn how to think and logically surmise.
You spend twenty minutes a day with your child and they will learn to read.
For group work I have written the lessons out on a board big enough for all to see and used a yardstick to run under the sounds. Yes, it works for small groups also.
