Author's Review
This album has top seller written all over it. Lil Wayne and Mannie Fresh, how can you go wrong? Apparently, you cant. This album was well produced with no fast forward tracks on it. Lil Waynes style is very unique and he has smooth flow the whole time. This album will show you that the young Lil Wayne is probably one of the best lyricists in the game right now. This is one of the best rap albums out of the south, right up there with Scarface and Three 6 Mafia! With Mannie Fresh producing Lil Wayne put out a great album. Is Lil Wayne The best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired? Im not sure, but some of these songs sound like it is just little Wayne freestylin out there.
The album starts with Walk In. Lil Wayne welcomes all his listeners to Tha Carter. Even though this is an intro type song, Lil Wayne does not hesitate to spit his game. This song has a pretty good beat but lets get to the good stuff.
Go DJ is the first song that I heard from this album and is actually the reason I decided to purchase the album. Lil Wayne has a lot of nice rhymes in this song but the beat gets old after a while. The first time you hear it, you will love it. If you play basketball, this song will be a nice addition to your warm-up tape.
After Go DJ you think there would be a filler track, right? Wrong. Lil Wayne puts This is the Carter on next. This song has a nice beat that is led by a guitar, or a computer generated guitar sound. But you dont noticed that as much when you listen to it, all you hear is Lil Wayne rhymin on this one. Another great part about this song is that Mannie Fresh stops in.
After two great songs in a row, you need a filler. Well I guess your gonna has to wait another track for that because Birdman JR is another great track. This is one of the greatest lyrical songs Ive heard in a while.
On the Block #1 is the filler you were expecting for so long. Its just an 18 second interlude that the album should have just cut out. Not long enough to need a skip though.
I Miss My Dawgs is another sick track that Lil Wayne puts on the album. This song features the artist Reel. This song has a somewhat slower pace to it and has a great chorus.
The next song on the album features Birdman AKA Baby. We Dont is a good track in which Lil Wayne takes some time to show that he can rhyme for about 30 seconds straight no breaths just great rhymes. Man I wish I could do that!
On My Own is a song where Lil Wayne explain thats hes out in the world on his own now. The snare drum leads this beat that you can definitely fall into. Lil Wayne does his usual rhymes and flow. Its his town
Lets get it on.
Tha Heat is next. This is about the gats that Lil Wayne straps. Decent song, maybe one of the weaker songs on the album. The chorus is pretty good though. But, rapping about guns is getting kind of old. This song doesnt get the skip in my book.
Lil Wayne steps it right back up again with Cash Money Millionaires. I dont care, Im a mother f***in cash money millionaire. Wayne shows that he can write some sick lyrics and then turn around and rap em with some great flow.
Inside is the next song on the album and theres no way you can miss that nice beat in the background of this one. Theres not much to say about a track thats only 1:30 long.
Bring It Back is one of the best songs on the album. This is style of rap that Lil Wayne is known for and what made him famous. A great beat only stops for a second so Lil Wayne can prove that its just him up there, he doesnt need these amazing beats that Mannie Fresh puts out.
The next song on the album is Who Wanna. The song has a faster pace. Lil Wayne has some good lyrics on this track But the album actually starts to slip a bit at the end. But how can you not slow down, with such a hot start?
On The Block #2 is next and it is a 24 second skit.
Get Down featuring Bidman AKA Baby is a major shift in style for Lil Wayne. This has more of a jazzy fell to it. The background is lead by a saxophone and the drums. This is more of a dance song compared to other Lil Wayne songs.
Up next is Snitch. This is Lil Wayne spittin about no snitchin. The song talks about not snitching if you dont want to get shot. Not the greatest message to the song but it has a good beat with nice flow.
Hoes is next and its about
What else? Hoes. I guess every rapper has to have a song about hoes on their album. Though it is a repetitive message from rappers this song is produced with high quality. Also, it features Mannie Fresh! Bonus!!
Only Way is the next song on the album. Lil Wayne brags about his flow here. He definitely has the right to brag though. This song is pretty catchy. It features Bidman AKA Baby again.
The next song on the album is the favorite track on the album for many Lil Wayne fans. The song is Earthquake. It has a little different style than the rest of the songs on this album. Im quite sure how to explain this song except that is a bit slower than some of the others on the album.
The next song starts with Lil Wayne rapping with no background music for about 10 seconds. Aint That A B**ch Is a faster song where little Wayne closes up the album with some good rhymes. The cops is watchin, streets is talkin
The album closes up with Walk Out. The song is more of an outro than anything else.
Lil Wayne is definitely starting to give T.I. a run for that King of the South title. Thats only if you think he hasnt taken it already.
