Product Review

Feeding your Intellectual Curiosity

by   jholman56 ,   May 22, 2001

Pros:  Fascinating, informative reading.

Cons:  Heavy emphasis on literature when non-fiction writing is its strength.

The Bottom Line:  Reading AM is a wonderful way to continue the lifelong process of education.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This magazine is wonderful, and while the articles are long, they are always worthwhile. I'm guaranteed to learn something new when I pull my copy out of my mailbox each month.

On top of that, the magazine's website, www.theatlantic.com, offers further depth in the form of reader forums and additional articles not found in the printed magazine. Thus the enriching experience doesn't have to end when one reaches the back cover.

To those reviewers who complain that reading the Atlantic induces sleep, all I can suggest is to stop watching television and develop an attention span. The topics are incredibly varied, and more than once I've retold the tale of a particular article to several friends and family members, hoping to share with them the experience that the magazine brings me. I can't recommend this publication too highly.

UPDATE--Currently I am trying out a Harper's subscription for a year to see how the two compare. The first issue of Harper's falls in the bottom 1/3 of the Atlantic issues I have read; look for a thorough review in a few months.
