Manchurian Candidate Blows a Fuse

Date of Review:  Jul 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: Feels like a retread of old spy thrillers. You saw the best scenes in the trailer already.
Review: "The Bourne Identity" begins on a highly implausible note that sets the tone for the whole movie: Jason Bourne is fished out of the Med with two bullet wounds in his back. Lucky for him, the bullets stopped only an inch or so under the skin! So a...

This will make you a Matt Damon fan!

Date of Review:  Jul 26, 2002
The Bottom Line: I liked it. Matt is a very likable hero, yet you wonder how he could have been the guy he forgot he was. It had a nice ending too.
Review: A man with bullets in his back is found floating in the sea by a fishing boat. He has no idea who he is, yet he has the ability to speak in several languages and can really defend himself. The fishermen take him to the location of a bank he had...

The Bourne Identity

Date of Review:  Jun 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: The Bourne Identity is on par with the best of the James Bond films.
Review: The Bourne Identity is a wonderful action suspense thriller on par with the best of the James Bond films. It stars Matt Damon, Chris Cooper, and German actress Franka Potente (of Run Lola Run) and is set mostly in France.

The film opens...

Identity Crisis

Date of Review:  Jun 13, 2002
The Bottom Line: Often entertaining but completely typical espionage thriller.
Review: The Bourne Identity is a European travelogue spy movie through and through. The main character travels from scenic locale A to scenic locale B and perhaps along the way is delayed for a few minutes to participate in a fight or a car chase. An...

A Spy Franchise Is Bourne.

Date of Review:  Jun 15, 2002
The Bottom Line: The action of James Bond meets the brains of Jack Ryan, and the result is so much better the the sum of its parts.
Review: A group of scruffy fishermen are working the sea on a cold, rainy, night off the French coast, when one of them sees a floating, blinking light in the water. They reel it in to find that is its a man, with two bullets in his back and a bank account...

Bourne Again

Date of Review:  Jun 19, 2002
The Bottom Line: Matt Damon turns in another nuanced performance as an amnesiac assassin action hero in this interesting thriller from indie director Doug Liman.
Review: The plaster swaddling the lower half of my body, as I recover from injuries received from an exploding zamboni machine, is starting to itch. I have also become somewhat bored at being confined to the upper floor of Chateau Maine. I am able to wheel...

Fugitive, Amnesia, AND espionage makes a potent combo

Date of Review:  Jul 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: The atypical spy movie mixes Fugitive and Action into a potent mix. However, too many villains distract from the fun.
Review: Bourne Identity managed to mix several genres and devices together into a potent mix. It's a mystery, an action movie, and a spy movie. It combines plot devices from The Fugitive AND Enemy of the State, and it is a potent combo.

The movie...

The Bourne Identity - Who is Jason Bourne?

Date of Review:  Jul 27, 2002
The Bottom Line: The Bourne Identity was a wonderful spy thriller. People who like this type of movie should give the movie a chance.
Review: have enjoyed many spy thriller movies in the past. I've been wanting to see The Bourne Identity ever since I first saw the previews of the movie. I was finally able to go see it with my best friend. We both really liked the movie, and she doesn't...

3 Movies into one!

Date of Review:  Jun 29, 2002
The Bottom Line: A merge of Momento, Ronin and the Fugitive starring Matt Damon! It is par but not an above-average film.
Review: Three movies combined into one: "Momento", "Ronin", "The Fugitive!"

Matt Damon (a great actor but not convincing as an action hero is an assasin who failed at a job - he is shot and loses all memory {like Momento}. WE begin a combined...

Potente born again in her first American movie

Date of Review:  Jul 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: "The Bourne Identity" is a well made, fun movie and I think it's certainly worth a trip to the theater.
Review: I will admit I enjoyed this movie. But beyond that I have very little to say, there's not much anylazation to be done here. It was well made and well acted by Damon and Potente. I have seen Franka Potente in two other German films: "Run Lola Run"...
