Author's Review
Bland is a nice word for the New Republic. Lacking the intelligence, style, or even interest of the Nation, the flash of scientific rationalism of Extropy or New Scientist, the energy of Earth First!ers, or the thought of Academia, this reads like the New Yorker of liberalism. Smart, but hopelessly out of date and out of touch.
Tell the editors to break out the Ginko Biloba, turn the music really loud, and pull out the Mondo 2000.
It's a good thing that the internet will replace old print rags like this. Finally some entertainment that stimulates!!! And it's also good for those of us who like community, but have short attention spans. :>

Polular Self Transformation - for a change!!
by: molecule (Thu May 4 '00)
Pros: great articles
Cons: a tad superficial...not always the most useful stuff
Personal Trasnformation magazine is a bit like New Age and the like. There is a big focus on feel-good type self-help figures, and relatively little of the more technical procedure based stuff.
I suppose the idea is that 10 step, how to meditate articles sell more magazines than valuable and deep articles which contain some real thought.
Needless to say, there was a good interview with Anthony Robbins, and one with that woman who wrote the book Gender Outlaw relatively recently. Both were pretty spectacularly done however. Still Bodywork magazine is a great publication of this type, as is MOndo 2000, and a ton of great web-resources. I seem to like the disinfo.com search engine as well for this sort of material.
Overall, this rates a 6 out of 10!
Happy Reading!
