The Lingering Memories from The Temple of My Familiar by Alice Walker

This novel challenges the reader to research history that has not been printed. The reader is left to find clues in our history that have led Alice Walker to these wonderfully written "memories." The expansion of this body of work is quite wide, yet specific in various time periods and settings. The feeling is left that these clues, with much work, can be traced to our written history. The objective opinion of our written history is also very much challenged and superseded in comparison to oral history in this novel. In the end, the reader is challenged to forget what is written in history and to feel their own memories of our collective existence.
