Surprising audiophile "catch"
Pros:
Excellent dynamic range and clarity, high production values, downright good/listenable music.
Cons:
None, unless you have an unreasonable dislike for all things "Titanic 1997" (some do).
The Bottom Line:
High production values, excellent digital recording. One of those soundtracks that are consistently listenable outside the actual movie.

Author's Review
I recently picked up a brand new pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD-580) and was looking for some good music to really show off what my new headphones can do.
I was surprised by the Titanic soundtrack -- of course, it helps to like both the music and the movie itself (which I do), but this music is terrific in terms of showing off high fidelity systems. Dynamic range is excellent, it's well recorded and (within limits of the basic themes) covers a variety of different styles.
Track 7, "Hard to Starboard" is particularly stunning heard over good headphones or speakers, and the rest are also excellent. This music has elements of ambient, classical and new-age that will put a system through its paces. So here's a new "use" for the soundtrack -- as a hi-fi demo disc!
Anyway... I won't go too much into the other aspects of this recording, as it's all been said in previous reviews. I wanted to touch on the high-fidelity nature of the music though... if you have a good system (and can appreciate the musical themes herein), do yourself a favor!
This recording can be found very inexpensively now (particularly used), as untold numbers of copies were sold after the movie came out in 1997. As of September 2003, "now" would be an excellent time to grab a copy.
