Beginning of An Era
Date of Review: Jun 19, 2000
This was one of the first games I bought for my playstation. I haven't had my playstation quite three years now, and at this time Tomb Raider was already a greatest hit. Once I saw the greatest hit sign, and looked at the back cover my mind was made up that I Wanted this game. It was only twenty bucks when I bought it so at the time I thought it was a great deal. Which it turned out to be. This game truly sets the tone for the rest of the series to come. Too bad this series had to end.
Main Character In This Game-Laura Croft
Places To Explore
Tomb Raider gives a number of places to explore, and a number of levels to complete the game in. There are four different massive worlds to explore for example: Ancient Rome, Egypt, Incan Runins, and The Loast City fo Atlantis. There are a total of 15 challenging levels on this game, and believe me they are challenging for even the biggest gamer out there.
Guns And Enemies
The arsenal in this game is one of the best in any game I have ever seen. Your arsenal includes...
Pistols (Everyone Better Know What These Are)
Magnums
Shotguns
Uzis
It doesn't get much better than this.
Some of your enemies from this game include that of Wolves, Bats, Alligators, Raptors and a T-Rex.
Being that this game came out in 1996, it is truly astounding being that this was one of the first games on playstation.
Graphics
The graphics of this game are just as good as you should expect. Not great from the playstation but good. One thing about the tomb raider series is it seems from tomb raider to tomb radier the graphics are the same, thats one reason why I prefer this over the rest.
Level Design
The level design of this game in my opinion are the best of the four. All the games have lots of color, and not too dark. I can't stand some of the games today that seem so dark you can't even tell what your doing. Some of the things you can do in the levels is go under water, shoot animals, and much, much more.
Screen shots
If I'm not mistaken there is one screenshot before each level. Screen shots were pretty much unheard of before this game was released. For those of you who do not know what screen shots are I will explain. Screen shots are movie cut scenes on video games that have better graphics then the actual game. Usuaully it shows the characters talking and doing something that has a big effect on the game. Screen shots now are much better than that of Tomb Raider, but the graphics, and voice acting is still above average in this game.
Character Design
The graphics in this game for the characters like Laura Croft are extremely superb. Her face, and body features in the game are identical to a real life person. The bears look like bears, the wolves look like wolves etc.
Conclusion
In Conclusion this game really set the tone for the rest of the Tomb Raider series, and the Playstation in general. I highly recommend this game to all gamers that are willing to beat out a hard long game. If you like this game you will also like these other playstation titles...
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil(s)
C:A Contra Adventure
