I got these 2-way radios for Christmas except the set of two w/ a dual charger ALSO came w/ an ADDITIONAL radio AND charger! It was so awesome.
-I haven't tested the maximum range yet, but within a quarter mile is great...
-The selection of channels is really handy because while I was flipping through channels I have run across other people talking with the same walkie-talkies (I could tell they were these ones because of the "Roger" beep at the end of a transmission). You don't want to be interrupted by them so you can simply choose another channel to communicate on!
-I like the "call" feature a lot!! It's great that you can pick the different ring tones because it reminds me of a cell phone. It's a good option to have if the person you are talking with either can't find his radio or maybe didn't know someone was talking to him.
-The key lock is a nice option if you don't want to accidently press a button that will mess up transmission. You can still "communicate" while key lock is on though. That's a very good thing!
-The backlight is GREAT if you're outside or inside in the dark!! Very bright!!
-The directions are very clear also. I could find out everything I wanted and more with them! No problems there!
-The battery meter on the LCD screen is displayed at all times.. instead of just hearing a sound that is supposed to alert you of a low battery or the radio just dying out.
-Here's good thing that isn't really a feature, but it is just a nice addition to the whole walkie-talkie experience: You can use as many of THIS walkie-talkie as you wanted at one time. For example, if you had 2 at one house, 1 at a house 2 miles away, and then 2 more at a house a couple more blocks away from that house, you could ALL talk at ONE time. How awesome is that?? If you each set the radios to a separate call tone you'd know EXACTLY who was trying to talk to you! It's pretty hard to set up 3- or 4-way calling these days isn't it?? Well, now you don't have to! Haha!!
I'm going to try leaving the separate charger & radio with my friends who live about 3.5 miles away from me.. hopefully I can communicate with them perfectly!!! I'll update that later and tell you if it worked or not.
One of the problems I experienced was the fuzziness when talking back and forth. It's not that bad and you don't notice it after talking for a while. Not sure if it get worse at all when you get farther apart. Hope not!
Overall, these radios rock!!! They are the perfect gadget for anyone who doesn't need the MOST high-tech 2-way radios out there. They are really a super bargain for all the AWESOME features they include (see above for my mini-reviews of my favorite features).
If you are looking for great walkie-talkies, LOOK NO FURTHER!!!! These are stellar!
