My office is now equipped with what can only be described as a miracle in monitor technology; the 'ViewSonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W'. I think its a miracle because it makes a difference in how I do my job.
Explanation
I have a very small, narrow office and space is limited. Some might call my office a glorified closet. Its jam packed with the essentials; a filing cabinet (important for storing confidential papers) and an old bookshelf thats falling apart and tends to lean ever so slightly. My desk is a mere 2 ½ ' wide and 5' long slab of wood (2' short of the length of my entire office) and has 6 convenient cubby holes; 2 on the left, and 4 on the right; good for storage since I can't put anything on the bookshelf.
On top of my desk I have a fax machine, phone, desk calendar, mouse with ergonomic gel mouse pad, stapler, tape dispenser, paperclip dispenser, and my 'Coleman' miniature tool belt mug called the 'BucketBoss' to hold pens, pencils, highlighters, scissors, and the all important nail file. Now picture and old 17" traditional monitor overhanging the width of my desk taking up at least 1/3 of the available free space; can you say 'too much stuff in such a small space'!
I'm not one to complain because complaining gets you noticed (mostly in a bad way). I love my job, I really do, but I feel like I live in a closet. My boss is a busy man and barely finds time on his schedule to visit my closet for more than 5 minutes, twice a month, so he doesn't pay much attention to my space challenges. The only time I see him is when I have a problem or he wants to remember what I look like. Otherwise, I'm left to my own devices, which is just the way I like it.
But after a year and a half of dealing with limited space (yes I'm a patient woman), I summoned the courage to ask my boss on one of his infrequent visits, 'Can I get a space saving monitor for my desk?' He looked at my desk then back at me and said, 'You are crammed in here pretty tight.' In my head I'm yelling 'Dah!!!' but I whispered ever so humbly, 'It can be a challenge at times but I make due.'
Then I heard those magic words, 'We'll get one ordered for you.'
Tears actually welled up in my eyes when he said that but I was very professional and responded calmly, 'That would be great.' I thought great? No fantastic!! I wanted to jump up and down and holler 'Whoopie!'
Within a week, the tech guy was in my office replacing my ancient, goliath monitor with the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W'. I was never as excited about new office equipment as I was on the day I watched that old monitor hit the pavement. Good riddance!
Fits Perfectly
The 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor' sits on a pretty little raised, round, black pedestal tucked away kitty-corner in the furthest left side of my desk. It freed up much needed space. It changed the whole look of my office. The clarity of the screen and the wide view is perfect for me. It is positioned in such a way as to keep the optimal distance away; no more eye strain and blurred vision and I don't worry about glare coming off the monitor from my overhead fluorescent light.
As I explained before, my desk is not very wide and I felt like my face was inches away from the screen of my old computer monitor. Sitting too close to a computer monitor is like sitting too close to a TV, bad for the eyes.
Recommendation
There are three reasons I like the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W'; Choice, price, and space savings.
Choice:
Is the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' the latest, thin, state-of-the art monitor? No, at least I don't think so. But beggars can't be choosers. I was begging, but if I had my choice, I would get the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' over the other more expensive name brand monitors out there.
Price:
In a price comparison on epinions.com, the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' is listed at $205 and beat other competitive sites offering the same product in price by almost $18; Pretty cool.
Space Saving:
The 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' is perfect for spatially challenged offices like mine, and would work well at my home too.
If you still have that mammoth monitor that takes up too much space, I recommend replacing it with the sleeker, better quality 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' .
Who knows; I may do my job so much better with the 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor/Model VA1926W' that I get moved to a bigger office with a bigger desk. If that happens, Im taking my 'Viewsonic 19" Wide LCD Monitor' with me.
