I hope I can save you some frustration by taking the time to write this review. We bought our first Whirlpool GU2455(black,plastic interior) in Aug/07. We had great hopes.Out of the box it needed new parts -control panel lights & steam escape not working. Parts were replaced & it was just a minor nuisance. But the dishes were NEVER clean. I could always count on doing some by hand after the cycle finished. Dishes in top rack, especially cups that had been used for tea were constantly coming out still stained. These stains could be wiped off by hand with damp soapy cloth so we knew it was unacceptable. We tried washing these tea cups in our neighbour's Whirlpool (which was 3 or 4 yrs older than our model) and the cups came out sparkling white. The cutlery is even worse, disgusting with white milky film and food stuck on. The cutlery tray can be used in the door or the interior bottom rack. We tried both but neither made a difference. And the cutlery tray is hard to get out of the door as the utensils poke into the ledge it sits in. We are dealing with a very good appliance dealer and they replaced the dishwasher with the same model in Sept07. This one is no better. We have tried everything, different detergents, HOT HOT water, running a rinse cycle first. We scrape all food off before loading. Nothing works. It's as if there just isn't enough power to get the jets to spray hard enough to the top rack. And I don't think the food grinder can handle even the smallest food particles as they end up being recycled over the dishes in the final rinse & baking onto the dishes. This dishwasher takes about 90 minutes to complete a normal cycle. And having to pre-rinse and wash by hand just negates any energy saving. We are currently waiting for another repair tech to come. Our ultimate goal is to replace this dishwasher with an entirely different brand. By the way, we paid $670 for this dishwasher ON SALE in Canada, so it wasn't cheap in my opinion. And I am not writing this because I am bitter, I just want to help someone else avoid a costly mistake.
JAN 2/08 -FURTHER TO THE ABOVE COMMENTS-Senior tech (2 this time!)put new motor, pump and spray arm on the dishwasher. Apparently, the new spray arm will be standard on all the new dishwashers within the upcoming months but for now, they are being built using the old one. The new one is supposed to be more powerful so obviously there have been enough complaints for them to make a change.\
Unfortunately, we are still getting dirty dishes. Thank goodness the company we bought from is a superior one and they stand behind their products. They have offered to buy back our dishwasher for full price so we can choose another brand. It won't be a Whirlpool.
