Ernest Hemingway - The Sun Also Rises

Ernest Hemingway - The Sun Also Rises

Product Review

A fine wine of a life

by   gmak20 ,   Apr 22, 2001

Pros:  Pleasantly written, the theme works itself right in, a delightful story to read

Cons:  Sometimes repetitive and misleading

The Bottom Line:  I love all books, and this was one of them. Read it to be fascinated and read it for the fine taste of wine.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

This novel takes place during the mid 1920's and shows the society in France and Spain. The characters wonderfully portrayed the values and commitments of that lost society. In the novel the characters drank like crazy and spent the rest of their time hanging out at cafes. This lost society that they live in had no real love, since the boy never got the girl and the girl ran away with many other boys, and had no compassion. The story never dealt with any important issues, like post world war one issues or anything other that was happening around the world. A couple characters did read and write a lot, but their works were never discussed in real detail and were not a big part of the story, a sign? Overall Hemingway told a beautiful story that truly portrayed life in Europe during this time and the society with no tomorrow.
