Quality High Efficiency Washer
Date of Review: Apr 15, 2006
The Bottom Line: This is an easy-to-use machine, well built and quiet. The savings from lower water and detergent usage will allow the washer to pay for itself in about 5 years.
We just purchased this he front load Maytag, and I've run about 20 loads in it. I love this washer. The washer runs quietly (it is installed on a concrete floor, no riser), and after 20 loads, the washer has not "walked" or made loud noises on the spin cycle. I have noticed that on the high spin speed there is a high pitched whirring noise, similar to the sound of a jet airplane taking off, but when I shut the door to the laundry room, I can't hear it. (It only seems to bother the dogs if they are in the room). The clothes come out clean, and it uses 1/3 the amount of regular detergent when washing (compared to my old top loader). Be careful not to use too much detergent, or you will create too many suds, and the machine will not properly wash or spin your clothes.
The installation of this washer was easy, my husband and I were able to install it in the house in less than one hour. Two very important things to remember when installing the washer: 1) Make sure to level the machine at all 4 corners. This will help keep the loads balanced, and prevent "walking". 2)Remove all of the shipping bolts located on the back of the washer. If you do not do this, you will risk ruining the washer, and it will also "walk" and be quite noisy when it's run.
This machine does not have the presoak cycle, and is a bit smaller than the 8700 or 9700, but for our use, it fit our budget and our laundry room perfectly. Pair this machine up with one of the Maytag Neptune dryers, and you have an excellent laundry system. The high rpm spin on the washer cuts the dry time of the clothes from 1/3 to 1/2 the time on sensor dry. This is compared to the dry time of my clothes coming out of my old Kenmore top-loader.
